TARS COMMITTEE
The Committee consists of a President, and elected committee of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and up to eleven other members.
As you can see from the list below, we ar short of a couple of Committee Members. If you feel that you could serve on the Committee, please speak to any current Committee Member. We will be pleased to have you on board.
The current Committee Members are:
President, Tars Internel Contests Manager: - Derrick Webber G3LHJ.

I have been a member of TARS for over 50 years.
During that time I was Chairman for 17 years and now the President of the Society.
I also hold the post of 'HF Contest Manager' and am the Society's Awards Manager as well as tending the club Notice Board.
I am the controller of the Saturday TARS net on 80 metres SSB.
I am 95% CW operator, enjoy contest operating, QRP operating and constructing of Home Brew QRP rigs.
Chasing ‘DX’ for the Awards programme, the main ones being DXCC, USA county Awards and IOTA.
I am a member of the First Class Operators Club, Royal Signals ARS and G-QRP Club and RSGB.
Chairman: Pam Helliwell - G7SME

I joined TARS in 1994 after moving into the area from Reading and gained my licence
in that year. I am Deputy RSGB Regional Manager 112 - Devon since April 2003 and a previous
Secretary of TARS from 1996 -2000
My Amateur Radio interests include operating the GB4FUN exhibition unit
at Scout and Guide Jamborees.
I am controller of the South Devon Raynet Group.
Secretary; Rally Co-ordinator Mike Dixon - G1TUU

Licensed 1986 while working as TV field engineer in central London.
Moved to Computer field service 1977, made redundant in 2002 just short of retiring - only job available was driving a Stagecoach Bus in London.
Moved to Devon and joined T.A.R.S., after retiring and never looked back.
Volunteered to replace Mark Jeffs as Secretary in 2007
Mike has been relected for 2008 and will continue to fulfil the duties involved for the 2008 term of Secretary
Treasurer: Colin Coker - G4FCN

First licensed as G8GCS in 1970, and attained the A license in 1976.
A member of TARS since 1967. I have served on the Committee for two periods, a total of about 35 years.
Primary interests are in ATV, VHF data communications and computing in general.
Took early retirement from British Telecom in 1999, and have since been employed in the computer industry, and a part time post with in a local outlet of a large International company.
A member of the local “Raynet” Group.
Membership Secretary, Assistant Treasurer : Ged Coker – G6CLD

I have been a member of Tars for 30 years and held several roles within the committee, having been Librarian, SWL Rep and Secretary. (which also involved organising the Rally and Annual Dinner). I like working 2 metre contests. I am South Devon Assistant Raynet controller and have been licensed since August 1981. My husband Colin G4FCN is also on the committee.
Public Relations Officer: Peter Tanner – G4VTO

I have been a member of TARS for a number of years and served on the committee for quite some time. I am interested in HF SSB operating and the construction of simple dipoles and long wire aerials.
GB3TR Keeper: Bill Butchers – G8XST

I was licensed in 1979 and I hold the NOV for the repeater GB3TR and I am the Technical expert for every thing to do with the repeater. I operate mainly on VHF and have been known to occasionally appear on 23cms
Committee Member: David Bowyer - M1AEI

I joined the Torbay Amateur Radio Society in January 1996 and sat the RAE within four months Since then, I've really enjoyed setting up a radio shack, building and experimenting with different types of antenna's, together with putting up beams. I also enjoy ' talking ' radio and going to radio Rallies, in the UK, Dayton Ohio and Friedrichshafen Germany. Whenever possible. I join the Saturday TARS net on 80 metres SSB. I am also a member of RSGB, ARRL and the Poldhu Amateur Radio Club.
Training Co-ordinator: Larry Hill M1ARW

First licensed in July 1996 as Class ‘B’, now have full UK licence. Awarded the RAE pass in July 1995. (I thought I would pass my morse test first but due to service commitments, etc, etc) Retired from RAF service in March 1997, I am RAFARS member 391D since October 1995. I joined TARS Committee in February 1998. My main interest is UHF/VHF operating and packet radio.
Committee Member: Mike Garry 2E0PDL

I joined TARS just about a year ago and since then have passed the Foundation with callsign M3UVT and the Intermediate with new callsign of 2E0PDL. My interests are in most aspects of amateur radio and within the club I would like to promote more young members to enjoy the the hobby. Mike was elected to Tars Committee at the 2008 AGM and will be an active member
